'Echoes from the Belle Èpoque', principal focus of the exciting 2020-21 season of the RTVE Orchestra & Choir

Pablo González, Principal Conductor and Artistic Adviser to the Orchestra and Choir, and the Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra (RTVE) have announced their exciting 2020/21 season, subtitled: "Echoes from the Belle Époque", as this will be the main thematic thread throughout the season. Paris in the peaceful oasis between the Franco-prussian War and the 1st World War, a city devoted to the arts, full of optimism, imagination and artistic ambition portrayed through the music written by Bizet, Debussy, Ravel, Saint-Sänes, Chausson, Paul Dukas, Cesar Franck, Stravinsky, Manuel de Falla and Joaquín Turina.

The new season will also feature the cycle "Planet Earth". In the crucial times we are facing, this cycle renders hommage to our biological home and the powerful evocative power of nature, from the chaos before the explosion of life as envisaged by Haydn in "The Creation" to the poignant farewell of the wayfarer at the end of Das Lied von der Erde. Other composers featured in this cycle are Debussy, Beethoven and Berlioz.

The RTVE Orchestra will also perform Johannes Brahms' symphony cycle between January and March. Labeled as a 'conservative composer' in his time, Brahms builds a truly personal and particular music world without the need to break any rules or conventions. Listening to Brahms is like an immersion in truth. Like Bach's music, in Brahms's symphonies there is not a single superfluous note, everything has a reason to be. His music exemplifies the art of honoring the past to build a music that transcends time  and that is, above all, pure music, beautiful and profoundly emotive and human.

The 2021-22nd season will bring a select group of Artists including: conductors Junajo Mena, Vassily Sinaisky, Enrico Onofri, Jaime Martín, Christoph König, Nuno Coelho and Andrea Marcon; pianists Simon Trpceski and Noelia Rodiles; violinists Julian Rachlin and Svetlin Roussev; violist Sara Ferrández; cellists Asier Polo and Javier Albarés, organist Juan de la Rubia, accordionist Iñaki Alberdi, and an impressive roster of 30 vocal soloists, including Gerhild Romberger, María Espada, Carlos Mena, Thomas Mohr, Olesya Petrova, Ketevan Kemoklidze, Dmytro Popov, Kyle Ketelsen and María José Moreno.
